Experienced Public Finance Attorney Rebecca Lawrence Joins Ballard Spahr in Minneapolis
Rebecca Lawrence, a public finance attorney with more than 15 years of experience serving as in-house counsel responsible for municipal securities regulation, compliance, and enforcement matters for broker dealers and as municipal adviser, has joined Ballard Spahr as senior counsel, firm chair Mark Stewart announced today. Ms. Lawrence began her career in public finance in private practice as bond and underwriter’s counsel at an international, Minneapolis-based law firm.
Ms. Lawrence provides counsel to clients on public finance and fixed-income products, with a particular focus on the regulation of municipal securities underwriters and municipal advisers. For the past 12 years, she has served as in-house counsel at Piper Jaffray (now Piper Sandler). In that role, she was responsible for all aspects of municipal securities regulation and compliance, as well as oversight of fixed-income trading and markets.
“It’s uncommon to find someone with Rebecca’s experience, so we are thrilled,” said Emilie Ninan, Co-Chair of the firm's Finance Department. “Her experience is going to help us provide the highest level of service to more clients.”
Ballard Spahr has one of the premier public finance practices in the country. Thomson Reuters continuously ranks the practice among the top firms nationwide each year as bond counsel and underwriter's counsel by dollar volume, and since 1958, it has been listed continuously as a nationally recognized bond counsel firm in The Bond Buyer's Municipal Marketplace. The Public Finance practice has participated in the issuance of more than $1 trillion of tax-exempt obligations in all states, the District of Columbia, and American territories.
