Mark J. Furletti, a Ballard Spahr Partner in the firm's Consumer Financial Services Group, has been named as a Fellow in the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.

Founded in 1996, the College is an association of attorneys with extensive experience in the consumer financial services industry. It recognizes lawyers who—in addition to being experienced and skilled—are dedicated to improving and enhancing the profession and practice of consumer financial services law. Membership is by invitation only and is voted on by a nominating committee that considers nominees’ contributions to the advancement of consumer financial services law and the edification of those in the practice area.

"I'm humbled by this tremendous honor," said Mr. Furletti. "The College has a long history of excellence, and I look forward to working to continue that tradition by promoting a wider understanding of consumer financial services law and advancing the quality of the law and its practice."

Based in Philadelphia, Mr. Furletti counsels consumer financial services providers, including banks, on federal and state consumer lending and payments laws. He has successfully represented such providers in class action litigation and government supervisory and enforcement matters. Mr. Furletti also provides guidance on electronic payments and payment network rules and serves as the chair for Ballard Spahr's Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) Team. He previously served as co-chair of the Electronic Financial Services Subcommittee of the American Bar Association's Consumer Financial Services Committee.

Before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Furletti spent several years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, during which time he authored more than 15 articles on consumer credit and payments topics and advised those crafting regulations on consumer credit and consumer payments issues.

Mr. Furletti was formally inducted at the College's 2019 Awards Dinner held March 30 in Vancouver. He is the 12th attorney from Ballard Spahr to be admitted to the College—among the highest number of any firm.

"Mark is an incredible attorney who has earned the trust of his clients, the admiration of his peers and the respect of both. I can think of no lawyer more deserving of this recognition." said Alan S. Kaplinsky, who leads Ballard Spahr's Consumer Financial Services Group. Mr. Kaplinsky, who served as the College's first President, was honored in 2016 with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ballard Spahr's Consumer Financial Services Group has more than 120 attorneys across the country. Lawyers in the group represent clients ranging from global financial institutions to entrepreneurial enterprises and internet-based providers.
