Ballard Spahr Advises Ross Aviation in its Acquisitions of Rectrix Aviation and Island Air

February 28, 2019

Ballard Spahr represented Denver-based Ross Aviation, a growing operator of fixed base operations (FBOs), in its February 2019 acquisition of Rectrix Aviation 2019 and in its January 2019 acquisition of Island Air.

Through these acquisitions, Ross Aviation expanded its footprint to include Rectrix Aviation’s five FBOs—located in Boston (BED), Worcester (ORH), Westfield (BAF), and Hyannis (HYA), Massachusetts, and Sarasota (SRQ), Florida—and Island Air’s two FBOs, located in the Cayman Islands. It also acquired Rectrix Aviation’s Part 145 aviation repair station and will provide services to Rectrix’s Part 135 charter business, which was separately sold.

The Ballard Spahr team was led by Business and Finance Partner Carin M. Cutler in Boulder, Colorado, and included Tax Partner Saba Ashraf in Philadelphia, Business and Finance Partner Michael R. Kuhn in Minneapolis, Intellectual Property Counsel Corinne A. Militello in Philadelphia, Employment Litigation Of Counsel Nancy S. Anton in Minneapolis, and Business and Finance Associate Conor Crawford in Boulder.

Following these recent acquisitions, Ross Aviation now operates 16 FBOs at 14 airports located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and the Caribbean.
