Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Roy Herrera Joins Ballard Spahr

Roy Herrera, who served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in Phoenix, has joined Ballard Spahr in the firm's Litigation Department, Phoenix Office Managing Partner John G. Kerkorian announced today.

Mr. Herrera joins Ballard Spahr as of counsel in the Phoenix office. He focuses on political law, government and regulatory affairs, and white collar defense. He conducts internal investigations and advises on campaign finance and election law matters for clients including nonprofits, businesses, political candidates, and donors. Mr. Herrera has also served on the legislative staff of former Congressman Ed Pastor (D-AZ).

Joining Ballard Spahr along with Mr. Herrera is Daniel Arellano, who comes to the firm as an associate in the firm's Litigation Department. Mr. Arellano represents clients in campaign finance and election law matters, government and regulatory affairs, and complex civil and criminal litigation, particularly at the appellate level. Mr. Arellano has clerked for both the Arizona Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Messrs. Herrera and Arellano will be members of Ballard Spahr's White Collar Defense/Internal Investigations; Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs and Contracting; and Political and Election Law Groups. They join the firm from the Phoenix office of Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie.

Its government relations team helps clients make the most of opportunities stemming from government policy, legislation, and regulation, particularly at the state government level. The lawyers in its white collar practice conduct internal investigations and represent clients facing actual or threatened government enforcement. In the area of political and election law, Department attorneys advise on issues involving campaign finance, redistricting, lobbying, the formation and operation of PACs and nonprofits, and legal compliance.
