Michael Sklaroff Receives Lifetime Achievement Award From The Legal Intelligencer

June 13, 2018

Michael Sklaroff—an attorney whose more than 40-year career includes central roles in landmark cases, signature real estate development and cultural projects, and exemplary public service—has been named a 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award winner by The Legal Intelligencer.

Mr. Sklaroff is a partner in Ballard Spahr's Real Estate Department, which he founded more than 25 years ago and built into what Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business has called "a national powerhouse." He served as longtime department chair before passing the reins to Bart Mellits in 2013. Today, the department comprises more than 120 attorneys in offices across the country.

"Michael's extraordinary success, and the indelible mark he has made on our firm, the City of Philadelphia, and the profession, are a testament to his joy in the practice of law and the intellect and vision he brings to everything he undertakes," Ballard Spahr Chair Mark Stewart said. "We are fortunate to have Michael as our colleague and immensely proud that others also regard him as a stellar lawyer and citizen."

Mr. Sklaroff and fellow honorees are profiled in a special supplement in the June 12 edition of Philadelphia-based The Legal Intelligencer, the nation's oldest daily law journal and a member of the ALM family of legal publications. Honorees will be recognized at an event scheduled for June 27 at the Crystal Tea Room.

A former longtime member and chair of the Philadelphia Historical Commission, Mr. Sklaroff played a leading role in establishing the Real Property Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association and serving as founding chair. He is a past recipient of the Real Property Section's highest honor, the Harris Ominsky Award, in recognition of his legal talent and achievements, contributions to the public interest, and integrity.

Mr. Sklaroff founded and chairs the Development Workshop, Inc., an organization of developers, architects, planners, engineers, lawyers, and others seeking to support development, stimulate job creation, and promote economic vitality in the Philadelphia region. He has represented cultural and educational institutions in major projects, including the Philadelphia Orchestra's home at the Kimmel Center, and has dedicated thousands of pro bono hours to worthy individuals, organizations, and causes.
