Adam D. Maarec—an attorney with significant experience advising financial institutions on regulatory compliance matters involving product development, marketing, privacy and data security—has joined Ballard Spahr in its Washington, D.C., office. Mr. Maarec will be a member of the firm's Business and Finance Department and its Consumer Financial Services Group.

Mr. Maarec represents financial services companies of all sizes in complying with federal and state consumer finance laws, particularly those related to credit cards, other forms of open-end credit, unsecured closed-end credit, e-commerce in mobile environments, affiliate partnership and marketing arrangements, data aggregation, information sharing, privacy, and data security. He also provides strategic advice to companies on privacy and data security considerations in product development, marketing, and production. Mr. Maarec works with companies using agile development processes and participates as a legal stakeholder in fast-paced product execution environments.

Mr. Maarec is the current co-Vice Chair of the Federal and State Trade Practices Subcommittee of the Consumer Financial Services Committee of the American Bar Association. He co-authors a semi-annual survey of unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices.
