Ballard Spahr Advises Keene Housing Authority on Solar Project

April 4, 2018

Ballard Spahr advised New Hampshire's Keene Housing Authority on a solar energy project that will provide renewable energy to residents. Partner Darin Lowder and Associate Matthew J. Vantusko, both of the Energy & Project Finance Group, led the firm's team.

Solar panels will be retrofitted to nine apartment buildings in one of the housing authority's affordable housing apartment complexes, Harper Acres, later in the spring. The panels will provide energy to all 112 apartments and will produce about 105,592 kilowatt hours of clean energy per year, which is equivalent to offsetting nearly 121,000 pounds of carbon pollution.

Keene Housing Authority manages several apartment complexes and housing units throughout the region that serve elderly and low-income residents. The solar panels are part of Keene Housing's larger energy usage-reduction plan, which aims to reduce overall energy and water consumption by 20 percent across the organization by 2025 and meet all energy needs with renewables by 2035.

Mr. Lowder, located in Ballard Spahr's Washington, D.C., office, focuses on energy, project finance, project development, and related tax and public financing tools. He has represented lenders and developers in solar projects across the country. Based in Las Vegas, Mr. Vantusko focuses on energy-related transactions.
