Ballard Spahr is teaming with Wills for Heroes Colorado to offer the first Wills for Heroes event in the state on June 22. The Wills for Heroes program offers free estate planning services to the people who risk their lives to keep us safe. Thursday’s clinic is open to active and retired Colorado resident first responders, military veterans, their spouses, and partners.

More than two dozen volunteers from Ballard Spahr’s Denver, Boulder, and Philadelphia offices—including 18 lawyers—will partner with in-house attorneys from Molson Coors, Arcadis, SM Energy, and Farmland Partners to provide free estate planning, wills, living wills, and health care and financial powers of attorney. The three-hour clinic, which begins at 2 p.m., will be held at the City of Aurora Public Safety Training Center, 25950 E. Quincy Ave. in Aurora.

“First responders risk their lives every day to protect people in their communities,” said Daniel JT McKenna, a litigation partner in Ballard Spahr’s Philadelphia office and President of the National Wills for Heroes Foundation. “Providing this important legal service, at no cost, gives them and their families peace of mind knowing that their documents are in order.”

Wills for Heroes is a nonprofit organization created following the attacks of September 11, 2001, when it was discovered that many first responders did not have estate plans. Ballard Spahr named the program one of its signature public service projects 10 years ago. Since then, the firm has helped more than 50,000 first responders at clinics across the country.
