Mark R. Gaylord—an accomplished trial lawyer who focuses on corporate litigation, land use and development disputes, and construction matters—has been named Managing Partner of Ballard Spahr’s Salt Lake City office, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today.

Mr. Gaylord, who has been with Ballard Spahr for 20 years, is the firm’s senior litigator in Salt Lake City. He represents public and private companies in complex civil litigation in federal and state courts nationwide. He also advises on business disputes—including bankruptcy and corporate governance matters—and counsels real estate developers and municipalities on land use issues. Mr. Gaylord succeeds Blake K. Wade as Office Managing Partner.

“Mark is a highly skilled attorney, a disciplined and strategic thinker, and is liked and admired by clients and colleagues,” Mr. Stewart said. “As Ballard approaches 30 years in Salt Lake City, I can’t think of anyone better suited to keep us strong in this important market. We are grateful for the sound leadership Blake has provided and look forward to this new phase of growth.”

With about 40 attorneys, Ballard Spahr’s Salt Lake City office serves regional and national clients in litigation, real estate, business law, public finance, and labor and employment matters. Its attorneys have earned key roles in the region's rapidly growing financial sector, and are well-known for their work in mergers and acquisitions as well as complex real estate development projects, including the $150 million sale of the assets of Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort.

Its litigators represent manufacturers, technology companies, financial institutions, developers, and other businesses in high-stakes disputes spanning consumer financial services, product liability, intellectual property, real estate, mortgage banking, and corporate governance.

“We are fortunate to have a deep and varied bench of talent in Salt Lake, and to have the opportunity to handle significant projects for clients both locally and nationally,” Mr. Gaylord said. “I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to grow the office, expand our range of services, and continue earning the reputation for excellence we’ve built over the past 30 years.”
