Brian C. Meadows, an Intellectual Property partner who leads Ballard Spahr’s chemical practice team, has been named a Fellow by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The prestigious ACS Fellows Program honors members for their outstanding achievements and contributions to science, the chemistry profession, the ACS community, and its members.

The 2016 ACS Fellows will be recognized at a ceremony during the group’s National Meeting to be held August 21-25, 2016, in Philadelphia.

“Brian is a tremendous asset to the firm and offers a great depth of insight and broad industry experience to our clients,” said Mitchell A. Katz, Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. “He earned this recognition in large part for his successes in procuring and protecting intellectual property rights and for his continued service to the ACS’s Division of Chemistry and the Law. It’s a big honor and one that he has earned through years of hard work and dedication.”

Mr. Meadows—a member of the chemical, mechanical, medical technology, and pharmaceutical practice teams in Ballard Spahr's Patents Group—also was noted for the significant market value he has created for technologies involving nuclear energy, environmental and green chemistry, pharmaceuticals, flavorings, fragrances, fuel cell technology, polymers, plastics, ceramics, textiles, and metallurgy.

He has served the ACS community through the Division of Chemistry and the Law for more than a decade by coordinating programming, leading the Division, and improving its financial position.

Mr. Meadows' practice covers all aspects of domestic and foreign patent prosecution, client counseling, and litigation relating to the chemical, mechanical, medical technologies, and pharmaceutical fields. He also handles corporate due diligence/M&A patent acquisition projects in the pharmaceutical and petrochemicals industries, and serves as patent counsel to clients ranging from large multinational corporations to small startup companies and universities.

Ballard Spahr’s Intellectual Property Department provides a full range of services, from patent prosecution and protection of trademark and copyright portfolios and branding services, to strategic IP counseling and litigation. The team helps some of the nation’s best-known businesses, universities, and research institutions develop, commercialize, enforce, and defend their intellectual property assets.
