Henry E. Hockeimer, Jr., who leads Ballard Spahr’s White Collar Defense/Internal Investigations Group, has authored a chapter in Managing White Collar Legal Issues, a new guide from leading legal publisher Thomson Reuters Westlaw.

Managing White Collar Legal Issues is the latest volume in the Inside the Minds series, an acclaimed collection addressing business leadership, published by Thomson Reuters’ Aspatore Books. In the chapter “Enforcement Trends and What to Do,” Mr. Hockeimer identifies and discusses major, ongoing developments in government investigation and enforcement of white collar legal issues in the United States and internationally. Citing real world examples, Mr. Hockeimer also makes specific, actionable recommendations on how companies can best avoid and respond to investigations and enforcement actions under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other U.S. and international laws.

“Recent enforcement trends should be a reminder to all companies and individuals subject to U.S. law that no one and no transaction truly is safe from government scrutiny,” Mr. Hockeimer writes. “While law enforcement recognizes that mistakes do happen on occasion and rogue employees do exist, such explanations for transgressions might fall on deaf ears if the company’s compliance function is weak, outdated, or nonexistent.”

A former federal prosecutor, Mr. Hockeimer represents businesses and individuals facing investigation by state, federal, and international authorities, and has represented clients in federal and state courts throughout the United States. He also has extensive experience advising on compliance programs and conducting internal investigations for companies as well as for other governmental and private entities. He has successfully handled numerous, often high-profile investigations and defenses in areas that include securities fraud, computer fraud, the FCPA, the Export Control Act, public corruption, and health care/off-label marketing.
