Two Ballard Spahr partners have been named to Human Resource Executive magazine’s list of the nation’s most powerful employment attorneys. John B. Langel, the former Chair of Ballard Spahr’s Litigation Department, and Steven W. Suflas, Managing Partner of the firm's Denver office, were singled out from a field of thousands of attorneys for their work representing clients nationwide on their most significant and challenging labor and employment matters. The list was prepared by the magazine in partnership with Lawdragon, a legal media and research company.

Mr. Langel led Ballard Spahr’s Labor and Employment Group for more than 30 years. He represents employers in litigation, including the preparation and trial of employment discrimination, restrictive covenant/trade secret, and breach of employment contract cases. He also counsels management in traditional labor law issues, represents management in collective bargaining negotiations and in labor matters before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and state labor boards.

Mr. Suflas advises employers on the full range of legal issues in the workplace, including the design and implementation of corporate-wide human resources and labor strategies and initiatives. He counsels management in collective bargaining and traditional labor law issues, as well as having experience in employment litigation, jury trials and appeals, and hearings before administrative agencies, such as the NLRB.

Ballard Spahr’s Labor and Employment Group has more than 50 attorneys across the country. They assist clients ranging from Fortune 100 corporations and health care systems to governments and professional sports teams on matters involving litigation, regulatory compliance, and traditional employment issues.
