Ballard Spahr partner Tom Sager was presented with the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award at today’s Corporate Counsel Awards. Prior to joining Ballard Spahr in September, Mr. Sager spent nearly four decades with DuPont Co., where he was chief litigation counsel for more than a decade before being named Senior Vice President and General Counsel in 2008.

The awards ceremony, held at the Union League, recognized 16 outstanding lawyers from the world of corporate counsel. The winners were selected by a committee that examined the nominees’ impact on the field of corporate law in the region. The committee cited Mr. Sager’s involvement in DuPont Convergence, an initiative that redefined the way law firms measure success, encourage creativity and collaboration, increase efficiency, and retain and promote women and minorities.

At DuPont, Mr. Sager oversaw significant litigation involving governmental investigations, product liability, environmental disputes, toxic torts, labor and employment, securities, antitrust, and tax issues. At Ballard Spahr, Mr. Sager uses his considerable experience, gained while steering the legal department of a Fortune 100 global corporation, to provide unique insight into various practices at the firm, including litigation, internal investigations, environmental issues, and mergers and acquisitions.

In October, The American Lawyer honored Mr. Sager with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his exemplary career and dedication to community service. He was recognized by The National Law Journal in 2010 as one of the 40 most influential attorneys and was featured in The American Lawyer as one of the Top 50 Legal Innovators.
