Katayun I. Jaffari, a partner at Ballard Spahr known for her work in securities, corporate governance, capital raising, and mergers and acquisitions, has joined the Support Center for Child Advocates (Child Advocates) Leadership Council.

The Leadership Council, which is chaired by former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Jane C. Greenspan, is an advisory group of community leaders that provides guidance and support to the agency. Ms. Jaffari joins a prestigious group of civic-minded community leaders, including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia President and CEO Dr. Steven Altschuler, Merck & Co. President Kenneth Frazier, and Philadelphia Phillies Senior Vice President of Administration & Operations Michael Stiles.

“I am so pleased to be joining this impressive group of people,” said Ms. Jaffari, who served as immediate past President of the Child Advocates Board of Directors. “I have volunteered as a child advocate with the agency for many years and look forward to working alongside the Leadership Council to further strengthen what I consider to be one of the most worthwhile causes in law: empowerment and representation of the most vulnerable members of our community.”

Ms. Jaffari is known for her commitment to pro bono legal counsel and to her community. She was honored by Pennsylvania’s First Judicial District for her pro bono work and received the 2014 Child Advocates Distinguished Advocates Award. In addition, she is Co-Chair of the Governance and Sustainability Subcommittee of the American Bar Association’s Corporate Governance Committee, serves as Communications Officer of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Business Law Section, and is Co-Chair of the Section’s Securities Regulation Committee. She is Special Corporate Counsel to DirectWomen and Vice President of the Scleroderma Foundation of the Delaware Valley. Ms. Jaffari also is a member of Maternity Care Coalition Board of Directors as well as a member of the Forum of Executive Women.

A leader in the fields of corporate governance and securities who has advised clients on multibillion-dollar transactions, Ms. Jaffari focuses her practice on complex securities transactions for businesses. She is noted for her work in capital markets, including public offerings, stock-for-stock mergers, private placements of common stock, and offerings of convertible notes. Her practice also includes board and business counseling.
