Katayun I. Jaffari, a partner in Ballard Spahr's Business and Finance Department, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Maternity Care Coalition (MCC), a nonprofit dedicated to improving the health and well-being of mothers and children.

Founded in 1980, MCC has assisted more than 80,000 families in Southeastern Pennsylvania, focusing particularly on neighborhoods with high rates of poverty, infant mortality, health disparities, and changing immigration patterns. Its programs include the MOMobile, which provides community-based home visits to pregnant women, new parents, and their families, and Cribs for Kids, which educates families on safe sleep and provides a crib to families who cannot afford one.

MCC is also Pennsylvania’s largest Early Head Start provider, delivering comprehensive early childhood education and parenting programs.

“Raising children to become healthy adults who can achieve their full potential is a monumental task. Numerous families in our region need extra support, particularly during their children’s critical early years, to accomplish this goal,” Ms. Jaffari said. “I’m proud to be part of an organization that fosters an environment where every child is welcomed, parents and guardians are empowered to care for themselves and their children, and communities can provide the systematic support that families need.”

At Ballard Spahr, Ms. Jaffari handles complex securities transactions for businesses in a variety of industries, including biotechnology, energy, and technology. She advises clients in multibillion-dollar deals and has broad experience in business finance, including public offerings, stock-for-stock mergers, private placements of common stock, and offerings of convertible notes.

Ms. Jaffari also focuses on corporate governance, counseling clients on complying with federal laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Dodd-Frank Act, and the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act). She helps clients develop compliance programs and guides them in matters concerning their corporate governance responsibilities.
