Ballard Spahr has been named the winner of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation's Saturday Lawyers Program 2011 Best New Law Firm Award, being presented by the AVLF for the firm’s pro bono work in the community. The award acknowledges Ballard Spahr’s commitment to staffing the Saturday Lawyers Program and its extensive pro bono work throughout the year.

The Saturday Lawyers Program is a collaborative effort between AVLF and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. Lawyers who participate in the program volunteer on Saturday mornings to interview low-income Atlanta residents with legal problems, assess their claims, and provide them with free legal representation.

Rebecca C. E. McFadyen, an associate in Ballard Spahr's Intellectual Property Department, will accept the award on behalf of the firm during the Atlanta Bar Association’s Annual Celebrating Service Luncheon tomorrow. Ms. McFadyen has been the primary organizer for the firm’s work at the Saturday Lawyers Program this year.

“I am very proud of my colleagues who may have stepped out of their comfort zones as intellectual property lawyers in order to give back to the community,” said Ms. McFadyen. “It is a privilege to work with the dedicated lawyers who have made such a positive contribution to the AVLF. It is truly an honor to receive the award, and this tremendous recognition reinforces the commitment of Ballard lawyers to serving our community.”
