Jon M. Laria, Managing Partner of the Baltimore office of Ballard Spahr, has been selected for the 2011 Leadership in Law award by The Daily Record.

The Leadership in Law award recognizes members of the legal community who have devoted time and energy to bettering the profession and their communities, and have played an important role in mentoring future professional and community leaders. Mr. Laria will receive the award at a ceremony on November 18. He is the fourth attorney in Ballard Spahr’s Baltimore office to be honored with this award—past recipients include Morton P. Fisher, Jr; Mark Pollak; and Teri M. Guarnaccia.

Mr. Laria represents real estate owners, developers, and lenders in development, financing, acquisition, and leasing transactions. He also has provided counsel to prominent projects throughout the area in land use, zoning, and government affairs. Mr. Laria chairs the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission, which is responsible for developing policy on land use and development issues facing the state.

Mr. Laria was Co-Chair of Gov. Martin O’Malley’s Housing and Community Development transition team and a member of the Governor’s Transition Steering Committee. He also serves on the Urban Land Institute’s Baltimore District Council, and as Vice Chair of the Healthy Neighborhoods Inc. board. He previously served as President of Live Baltimore and of the Baltimore Jewish Council.
