The new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) opens for business today. To coincide, Ballard Spahr is simultaneously launching its first blog, the CFPB Monitor, which will track developments surrounding this important new force in consumer protection law.

The CFPB Monitor will be written by attorneys in the firm’s nationally recognized Consumer Financial Services Group, which counsels financial institutions of all sizes and types on regulatory developments and defends them in lawsuits, including class actions, across the country. The blog, Ballard Spahr’s first, will offer timely information and analysis and opportunities for discussion on an agency poised to transform the consumer financial services industry.

“The CFPB has unprecedented, sweeping regulatory, supervisory, and enforcement powers and the reforms it contemplates will, no doubt, change the financial services landscape,” said Alan S. Kaplinsky, Chair of Ballard Spahr’s Consumer Financial Services Group. “I’m delighted to participate in the launch of the CFPB Monitor, which I expect will provide insight on the direction of the CFPB so that our clients can focus their compliance efforts.”
