Philip N. Yannella, who manages large-scale eDiscovery issues in high-profile litigation and advises on data preservation, retrieval, security, and privacy matters, joins Ballard Spahr today as head of its E-Discovery and Data Management practice, firm Chair Arthur Makadon announced.

Mr. Yannella, a partner in the Litigation Department in Philadelphia, brings to Ballard Spahr and its clients significant experience representing Fortune 500 companies on eDiscovery and data management issues in bet-the-company litigation, particularly in the pharmaceutical and health care industries. He is a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation and Product Liability and Mass Tort Groups. Mr. Yannella joins the firm from Dechert LLP, where he led national eDiscovery teams as a partner.

Mr. Yannella’s experience includes counseling clients on litigation hold implementation, protocols for discovery coordination and management, vendor selection, and overall discovery strategy and litigation readiness. Mr. Yannella has served as the principal member of national discovery teams in large-scale litigations and has experience advising on cross-border data collection matters. He has represented clients in Rule 26(f) conferences and discovery hearings and argued significant eDiscovery motions in federal and state courts.

Mr. Yannella handles discovery issues involving Food and Drug Administration regulatory submissions, clinical trial data, trade secrets, and the Stored Communications Act. He also has experience in product liability and commercial litigation, from pleadings through appeal, for a range of pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and health care companies.
