Robert R. Baron, Jr., a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP, was named to the Advisory Committee of the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (PVLA). His membership became effective in December 2009.

PVLA is a program of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, which is an affiliate of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. It provides pro bono legal services to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations as well as individual artists throughout the region. The PVLA Advisory Committee provides oversight and guidance to the program.

Each year through PVLA, approximately 500 area attorneys volunteer more than $1 million worth of pro bono services to low-income members of the regional cultural community. The volunteers help with issues including contract negotiation for actors, dancers, and musicians; protecting copyrights and trademarks; preparing by-laws for newly formed nonprofits; and negotiating workspace leases and exhibition agreements.

Mr. Baron is a partner in Ballard Spahr’s Litigation and Intellectual Property Departments and is the Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property Department. He regularly represents pharmaceutical companies, software developers, financial institutions, manufacturers, retailers, universities, and charitable organizations in intellectual property and business litigation.
