Ballard Spahr LLP earned a 100 percent rating in the 2010 edition of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index. The perfect rating recognizes the firm's benefits and protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer employees and their families.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the country's largest civil rights organization dedicated to achieving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer equality. Its Corporate Equality Index 2010 rated employers in various industries on factors including nondiscrimination policies, training covering sexual orientation and gender identity, same-sex benefits, and whether they have LGBTQ employee groups.

Ballard Spahr's employee affinity groups include Equality Ballard: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Lawyers and Friends, which champions a supporting environment within the firm, provides opportunities for business development and pro bono outreach to the LGBTQ community, and furthers the recruiting initiatives of the firm's Diversity Committee.

"We're honored by the HRC Foundation's recognition and affirmation of what we at Ballard Spahr have long believed—a diverse work environment makes our attorneys stronger, livelier, and more perceptive in their roles as advocates and advisers," said Director of Diversity Virginia G. Essandoh. "Our diversity leads us to excellence."
