Barbara Mishkin has joined Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, as Of Counsel in the Business & Finance Department and Consumer Financial Services Group.

Ms. Mishkin is a seasoned practitioner whose work focuses on consumer compliance and banking law. Her addition further strengthens Ballard's nationally recognized consumer financial services practice, an interdisciplinary practice of business and finance attorneys and litigators who collaborate to defend class actions and other complex consumer financial services litigation and also assist bank and corporate clients in structuring consumer finance programs and complying with applicable federal and state laws.

Ms. Mishkin is a member of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers and currently serves on the college's Board of Regents. The college was founded to recognize lawyers who have achieved preeminence in the field of consumer financial services law and have made substantial contributions to the promotion of learning and scholarship in that field. Ms. Mishkin is also a member of the American Bar Association's Consumer Financial Services Committee and is a former vice-chair of the ABA's Truth in Lending Subcommittee and a former chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Consumer Finance Committee.

"Barbara is a nationally known consumer financial services practitioner," Alan Kaplinsky, chair of Ballard's Consumer Financial Services Group, noted. "She brings years of experience and know-how to our practice, and it is a coup for Ballard to bring her on board." Mr. Kaplinsky observed that with the addition of Ms. Mishkin, Ballard's Consumer Financial Services Group now includes four of the five Pennsylvania attorneys elected to the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.

Ms. Mishkin stated, "Ballard's Consumer Financial Services Group has a stellar national reputation. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work at Ballard with some of the nation's top attorneys in the field of consumer financial services and banking law and to advance the group's work."

Ms. Mishkin has dealt extensively with federal consumer compliance and banking laws as well as state usury, lender licensing, and unfair and deceptive practices laws. The federal laws with which she has significant experience include the Truth in Lending Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act.
