On May 29, multiple media outlets won a lawsuit against former El Paso County Coroner Robert Bux over his refusal to release autopsy reports for Deputy Micah Flick and Manuel Zetina after the fatal shooting of Flick by Zetina. Coroner Bux filed a court petition, after local media sought the reports, to block public access citing reasons including the emotional trauma the release of autopsy reports would have on Deputy Flick's family. Ballard Spahr Partner Steve Zansberg, who represented the media outlets, argued "the law requires a coroner to cite substantial injury to the public interest under a unique and extraordinary set of circumstances as a basis for withholding the reports."

Mr. Zansberg commented that while future media cases might not prevail like this one, "it's a welcome finding, especially in light of the fact that Bux had repeatedly withheld autopsy reports attached to criminal cases over the past year."
