Two business lawyers with longtime ties to Utah's "Silicon Slopes" network of technology startups and emerging companies have joined Ballard Spahr's business and finance practice in the law firm's Salt Lake City office, the firm has announced.

Travis Marc Wilson and Ronald S. Poelman, both previously partners at Utah firm Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough PC, are bringing their years of corporate securities experience to clients including entrepreneurs, startups and emerging companies, corporate boards and venture capital and private equity investors, Ballard Spahr said Wednesday. Wilson, a partner, and Poelman, tapped as senior counsel, joined the firm about a month ago and plan to advise young tech firms on corporate transactions, governance, and compliance.

"Utah's technology economy is absolutely on fire. It has exploded in the last five years as East and West Coast venture investors have discovered Utah and done well here," Wilson told Law360 on Friday. "The market has really matured, and with this massive spotlight on Utah, we felt like we needed a national platform to better serve our clients with increased expertise and a name like Ballard Spahr."
