Media attorney Steven Zansberg will file a petition for certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court in a First Amendment records case on behalf of the Colorado Independent. The issue at hand is whether or not the First Amendment provides the public qualified access to judicial records.

Colorado Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart said, “We decline to conclude here that such unfettered access to criminal justice records is guaranteed by either the First Amendment or Article II, section 10 of the Colorado Constitution.”

Mr. Zansberg responded to this statement, “This is the only court I have found in the nation that has categorically rejected a First Amendment right to records.”
