Dr. Hans Keirstead, an opponent of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), has been the target of a series of cyberattacks over the past year. This case has been investigated by FBI agents in California and Washington, D.C.

Cybersecurity experts say the hackers could have been from a nation-state (possibly Russia), organized crime, or maybe even a random hacker with a specific agenda.

Former federal cybercrime prosecutor and Ballard Spahr partner, Ed McAndrew, says that the FBI's request for information indicated the bureau was taking the attacks on Keirstead's campaign seriously.
