Ballard Spahr LLP has further expanded its Philadelphia securities litigation group with a former senior regional trial attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the firm announced Monday.

David L. Axelrod, who until two weeks ago was supervisory trial counsel for the SEC’s Philadelphia regional office, has joined the firm’s white collar defense/internal investigations group and the securities enforcement and corporate governance litigation group, the firm said in a statement.

“After spending almost ten years in government I thought it was time for me to move on,” Axelrod told Law360 on Monday. “Ballard was a great fit due to the care they take for their clients and the expertise they have in the field.”

He led the SEC to a number of major trial wins in 2016, including a February verdict finding two brokers liable for trading on inside information about a $1.2 billion IBM acquisition. Axelrod also was on the team that in January 2016 won a verdict finding a former Capital One Financial Corp. analyst engaged in insider trading.
