The League of Arizona Cities and Towns brought national heavyweight law firm of Ballard Spahr LLP to provide government relations and advocacy services to the League.

The Ballard Spahr team will be led by Scott Smith and Joseph Kanefield, both of whom are well versed in the legislative and political process in Arizona and have significant experience in providing government affairs services at the Arizona Legislature.

"We have a great appreciation for the important role cities and towns play in improving our state's economic prosperity and the quality of life we enjoy in Arizona," said Smith. "We are grateful for the opportunity to represent an organization that serves such an important role to both state government and its members."

Kanefield, a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP, has 25 years of experience working with all three branches of the Arizona state government and is an experienced constitutional lawyer. He served as General Counsel to Gov. Janice K. Brewer, the State Election Director with the Secretary of State and worked in the Attorney General's Office before joining Ballard Spahr.
