Three Ballard Spahr lawyers rode 100 miles as part of the 2016 MS Society Chesapeake Challenge. Team Ballard's fundraising put it in the top five earners this year with more than $20k raised for MS research, for the second year running. Ballard Spahr commercial real estate partner Des Connall, whom Roger calls "our perpetual team captain," has organized Team Ballard's participation for the past 15 years.

Another charity ride is coming up in three weeks: the inaugural bike from Susan G. Komen's Maryland chapter. Des has agreed to champion the Promise Ride this year, to honor his wife, who courageously fought, but ultimately lost, her battle with cancer two years ago.

Roger tells us that anyone is welcome to join Team Ballard for the Promise Ride, which has 34 and 65 mile options. "It seems nearly all of us have been affected in some way by breast cancer," he says. "In 2002, my partner, Jon Laria's mother died of metastatic breast cancer at the age of 62. His wife, Trudy, is a breast cancer survivor."
