Demand for legal services has remained tight in the past few years and consultants predicted law firms would see an average of less than 5 percent growth in revenue for 2015. But many firms have far outpaced that figure.

Ballard Spahr saw gross revenue grow 8.2 percent in 2015, but firm leadership cautioned that the growth was due mainly to two large contingency fees the firm earned last year. Leadership said the revenue increase would have been about 2 percent without those fees. Partner profits increased 5.3 percent at Ballard Spahr last year.
