There are new generations of smart glass technologies that provide the ability to manufacture larger panes of smart glass. This is prompting architects to comply with building codes and requests for greener designs to increasingly incorporate smart windows into sun-facing facades of commercial buildings.

While the smart glass windows are more expensive, prices are dropping.

“The price coming down makes this technology very competitive,” said David Winstead who was GSA commissioner of public buildings from 2005 to 2009 and now is with Ballard Spahr.
