News of the approved merger between DuPont and Dow Chemical Co. cast a long shadow Dec. 11 in Delaware's legal community and beyond, with many bracing for the impact of a deal that could hit the First State especially hard.

Philadelphia-based firm Ballard Spahr, which operates an office in Wilmington, has touted a longstanding client relationship with the Delaware chemical giant. In 2014, the firm hired Tom Sager, formerly DuPont's general counsel, and earlier this month Ballard Spahr scooped up Justin M. Miller, a former top litigator for DuPont, as of counsel.
