Ms. Shapiro-Cyr became interested in a law career because of her grandmother. “She was one of maybe less than half a dozen women in her law school class,” she said. “She, unfortunately, never got to practice law just because it was so hard for women back then to actually be lawyers.”

Today, as a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP, she carries on her grandmother’s legacy. She handles property transactions, including representing the Housing Authority of New Orleans for many cases before and after Hurricane Katrina.

“(My job is) always different,” Shapiro-Cyr said. “There is always something new and interesting. No day is ever like another. I’m a people person, so I enjoy getting to interact with lots of different types of people.”
