Scott Pearson has joined Ballard Spahr in its Los Angeles office, bolstering its national consumer financial services group as part of a strategic plan to grow the firm’s litigation capabilities in the West. He is well-known for defending consumer class actions, having prevailed in more than 75 such cases in his 20-year career.

Mr. Pearson also focuses on complex business litigation and regulatory enforcement, particularly in the financial services industry, and is well-versed in handling Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforcement proceedings. He regularly deals with consumer lending issues, including the regulations governing mortgages, credit cards, student loans, auto finance, debt collection and credit reporting, the firm said.

“There are a lot more people in my firm who do what I do and can help work on really large important matters,” Mr. Pearson said. “It’s great to have people with expertise in every nook and cranny of consumer financial protection world.”

“Scott is experienced in the very issues facing our CFS clients — including some of the world’s largest banks — during this time of unprecedented regulatory change and increasingly assertive enforcement,” firm chair Mark Stewart said in a statement. “Scott adds an even greater level of service and sophistication to a practice that few firms can match.”
