Is the South Jersey market for legal work up and coming, or past peak? While the Atlantic City market is on the wane, Camden's legal market is on the upswing, with recent tax incentives bringing in more business—so the outlook is decidedly mixed. Large law firms such as Ballard Spahr have long been located in South Jersey, practicing in such areas as land use, real estate development, and municipal law.

"If you go back 15 or 20 years, most of the big Philadelphia firms set up outposts in New Jersey so they could then run litigation without having to use local counsel," said Steven W. Suflas, Managing Partner of Ballard Spahr's New Jersey office in Cherry Hill. "Most of those firms have left the South Jersey market. We have not, although Ballard's commitment to Cherry Hill is really a commitment statewide, when you look at the practice."

Mr. Suflas said that Ballard Spahr has an especially active zoning and land use practice in South Jersey, but the office's practice primarily is more national in scope.
