Film and TV star Katherine Heigl has filed a lawsuit against pharmacy giant Duane Reade after it tweeted a photo of the actress leaving the store with two bags. Ms. Heigl and her lawyer, Ballard Spahr partner Peter L. Haviland, say that the drugstore misused the image for its own advertising.

Ms. Heigl is seeking $6 million in compensatory and punitive damages over the March 18 tweet, which read, "Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can’t resist shopping #NYC's favorite drugstore." The suit notes that, due to her celebrity, Ms. Heigl is “highly selective and well compensated” when she decides to endorse a project or service. If she wins, Ms. Heigl plans to donate her winnings to charity.

"We expect Duane Reade to pay for its willful misuse of Katherine Heigl’s name and likeness," said Mr. Haviland.
