A judge in Fulton County, Georgia, has upheld the election of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson as president of the National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM). The decision comes after intense internal fighting, court battles, and competing boards of directors that have characterized Mayor Johnson’s NCBM term since last May.

In ruling in Mayor Johnson’s favor, the judge effectively fired Executive Director Vanessa R. Williams and nullified the actions of a group of board members that opposed his election to the organization’s top leadership post. A Ballard Spahr litigation team representing Mayor Johnson in this matter was led by David H. Pittinsky, Byung J. “BJay” Pak, and Ethan H. Cohen.
