Ballard Spahr Stillman & Friedman partner Charles A. Stillman has been retained by David Miranda, who is threatening legal action against the British government after being detained for nine hours recently at London’s Heathrow Airport.

Mr. Miranda is a Brazilian citizen and partner of reporter Glenn Greenwald, who wrote several articles for The Guardian about U.S. government surveillance based on materials leaked by former CIA and National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. Mr. Miranda isn't a journalist but reportedly was assisting Mr. Greenwald, a former attorney.

Mr. Stillman, along with attorneys from two other law firms, is handling matters in the U.S. for The Guardian, according to Gillian Phillips, the newspaper's director of editorial legal services.
