Charles A. Stillman, formerly of Stillman & Friedman in New York, has decided to merge his firm with Ballard Spahr. Stillman & Friedman has a longstanding reputation of strongly defending large corporations.

"They’re a perfect fit,” said Ballard Spahr chair Mark Stewart. "It’s easy to go out and get bodies, but rare to get the judgment our clients will be getting with Stillman & Friedman."

Ballard Spahr has looked to New York to continue expanding its stake in criminal defense. Stillman & Friedman had considered merging with a bigger firm for years to expand its client base. "We had heard enough times, ‘We want you to handle this litigation but you’re not big enough,’ that we had to consider a bigger platform to serve our clients," Mr. Stillman said. The New York office will be called Ballard Spahr Stillman & Friedman.
