A class action suit against LG Electronics Inc. was recently thrown out by a New Jersey district court judge. The suit claimed that LG manufactured and marketed defective plasma and LCD televisions whose inferior component parts essentially created "planned obsolescence," requiring owners to pay for expensive repairs or TV replacements.

The judge found that the complaint did not cite any specific representations that were made relative to the TVs or by whom they were made. He also dismissed consumer fraud claims the lead plaintiff alleged in New Jersey, Maryland, Rhode Island, and North Carolina.

LG is represented by Ballard Spahr litigators John B. Kearney and Christopher N. Tomlin.
