U.S. District Judge J. Curtis Joyner of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has ruled that Dr. Sarah Von Muller pay $91,114 to the American Board of Internal Medicine after she stole more than 50 questions from its gastroenterology certification exam. The judge disagreed with Dr. Von Muller’s claim that the ABIM offered no evidence of actual damages from her infringement of its copyrighted test questions.

Hara K. Jacobs of Ballard Spahr represented ABIM. She said in a prepared statement, "The jury's factual findings amounted to a resounding victory for ABIM, not only in terms of the verdict for ABIM on its own claims, but also the jury's rejection of the counterclaims for defamation lodged against ABIM."
