The subject of discussion at this year’s Law Week Colorado roundtable was women in the workplace. Answers to such questions as, can women succeed in the law?, can they lead and be power brokers?, and why are we still discussing this in 2012? were provided.

Leslie A. Eaton, a partner in Ballard Spahr’s Denver office, participated in the discussion, which sprang from a Wall Street Journal article titled “The XX Factor.” Ms. Eaton spoke about the importance of retention of talent in the workplace, and about how critical having an excellent sponsor in the firm was to her success. She said that Ballard litigation partner Roger Thomasch had mentored her, teaching her “how to be a great lawyer … and how to work for and with clients” and advocating for her within the firm. As a result of having been mentored so well, Ms. Eaton says she feels “a huge responsibility now to sponsor others. I have sponsored two other women, and I’m happy to say they both came through our system and made partner.”
