The implosion of the housing market and the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau have made specialists in mortgage regulatory law red hot. Ballard Spahr, which has moved aggressively to build a consumer financial services practice, has added four mortgage banking specialists from Patton Boggs.

Partners Richard Andreano, Jr., John Socknat, and Michael Waldron, along with associate Reid Herlihy, have joined Ballard Spahr’s Washington, D.C., office and will focus on regulatory compliance and licensing for lenders, brokers, mortgage servicers, and others. Practice head Alan Kaplinsky said the firm’s consumer finance group is "definitely in growth mode. Business has never been better."
