So far, no projects have applied for Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley’s “FastTrack” real estate development initiative, which would allow participants to get expedited approval on permits from multiple state agencies. The program is part of Governor O’Malley’s push to make regulations easier on businesses.

State economic development officials say they hope that word-of-mouth encourages projects to apply but realize that the underlying problem could be lagging real estate development. “(The program) is new and people are uncertain of what it’s supposed to do and how it’s supposed to work,” said Jon Laria, a real estate partner at Ballard Spahr and managing partner of the firm’s Baltimore office.
