Ballard Spahr's Energy and Project Finance practice was named one of top five energy practices in the nation by AOL Energy. The publication, which called the firm a "rising star," praised the firm for grouping together energy and infrastructure and for recruiting former regulators from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to guide its clients through changing U.S. energy policy.

Ballard Spahr has 13 offices nationwide including several in the Northeastern United States, putting it at the center of the Marcellus Shale natural gas field, which is transforming the region into a major future supplier of energy. In addition, the firm's energy roster includes former Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell and Harry Weiss, a partner who was appointed by Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley to an advisory panel studying natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale in Western Maryland.
