Joseph Kanefield, who has served as Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s General Counsel since her early days at the Secretary of State’s Office, is moving to the private sector. On May 16, he will join the Phoenix office of Ballard Spahr as a partner, focusing on government relations, appellate work, and election law.

Gov. Brewer said Mr. Kanefield was one of the “finest attorneys in the State,” saying that “his overall contribution to the success of my administration cannot be measured.” Mr. Kanefield said, “I hate leaving the Governor. She’s been good to me. It’s been a real blast working for her over the years. But, at this point in my career, it’s time for me to go pursue other opportunities.”
