New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a critic of public employee unions, received support recently from former Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell, now a partner at Ballard Spahr. Gov. Rendell, a Democrat, praised Republican Gov. Christie's efforts to reduce government-employee benefits, saying pensions "are not supportable in their current state."

"If Gov. Christie is going after them, it's the right thing to do," Gov. Rendell said at the State and Municipal Finance Briefing hosted by BloombergLink in New York.
