Ballard Spahr attorneys David L. Pollack and Jeffrey Meyers are representing landlords for 38 Blockbuster Inc. locations in the movie rental chain's Chapter 11 proceedings. The landlords have asked the judge overseeing the bankruptcy case to order the chain to either pay up about $450,000 in back rent or face eviction. Mr. Meyers said that he expected the motion would compel Blockbuster to pay the back rent before there is a hearing in the case or the leases are terminated.

"It seems to me the debtor must be having some type of liquidity problem, and we're hoping [that] before the hearing, that liquidity problem gets solved and they write a check," he said.
