Congressional Investigations: Preparing for the Unknown

In today’s politically charged and divisive environment, Congressional investigations can and do arise for myriad reasons with little or no warning. Corporations, non-profit organizations and individuals can find themselves in Congress’ cross hairs and must be prepared to respond to short deadlines under murky rules that vary depending on the committee of jurisdiction. Beyond the legal issues at the center of an investigation, an effective response strategy must consider the political calculus, reputational risks and potential impact on parallel government investigations. Join a panel of experienced Ballard Spahr lawyers as they share insights and experience on the different types of Congressional investigations: how they arise; how to respond; and how to deal with the political and public relations consequences.
In addition and in light of recent events, we will also discuss the CARES Act's recent creation of a congressional oversight committee and on the impact of these provisions on funded entities.
