The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) recent Request For Information concerning the credit card industry raises new questions for the industry regarding certain practices and products in addition to those areas of inquiry mandated by the CARD Act.


  • Whether this inquiry is an indication of a renewed interest of the CFPB in tightening regulation in areas such as:
    • the evolution of deferred interest products and associated risks,
    • "comparison site" standards and practices and potential consumer risks,
    • emerging consumer risks of online and mobile account servicing, and
    • examining changes in market terms, practices and consumer risks associated with rewards programs.
